Medium freezer fishing trawler (SRTM-K) of project 502 EM “MARIGOLDS” was modernized in 2012 for longline fishing for toothfish.

Starting from the 2016-2017 season, the vessel annually fishes for Antarctic toothfish in the Ross and Amundsen Seas (CCAMLR Treaty Area), where it has established itself as a responsible and professional participant.

The vessel has a fully equipped fish processing workshop that complies with HACCP standards and requirements.

Ship freezers allow not only high-quality freezing of processed fish products, but also stably maintaining the proper temperature regime (the temperature in the body of the carcass is at least -18C).

The vessel «MARIGOLDS» is equipped with modern means of communication: the CLS vessel monitoring system, the Iridium Pilot and Inmarsat ship stations, radar devices.

Participation in international organizations

«Taurus Logistics Group» is actively involved in the work of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR). This Commission annually approves and adopts a package of appropriate Conservation Measures that govern the use of Antarctic marine living resources. Commercial fisheries for Antarctic krill and other fish species are regulated on the condition that such fisheries are conducted in a sustainable manner and take into account the impact of fishing on other components of the ecosystem.

«Taurus Logistics Group»

maintains a strong reputation as a good company that ensures compliance with all CCAMLR Conservation Measures and values its reputation among Antarctic toothfish fishery operators in the CCAMLR Convention Area.

The company is also a member of COLTO (Coalition of Legal Toothfish Operators), founded in 2003. This organization is dedicated to preventing illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing for toothfish and to ensure the long-term sustainability of this marine resource.

Management and compliance measures taken by COLTO in recent years have successfully returned the toothfish fishery to a sustainable footing that supports legal water harvesting and environmental care.

The main fish species are Antarctic toothfish (Dissostichus mawsoni) and Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides). These are predatory fish that feed on small squids, but more often fish, and are themselves the subject of hunting for Weddell seals and sperm whales. One of the features of the toothfish is its ability to quickly float up and then dive back into the water in search of prey. This fish endures the colossal pressure drops that occur during such movements.

On the vessel “MARIGOLDS” a full cycle of processing of caught fish is carried out – cutting, freezing and packaging. The main type of product is a gutted carcass, without head and tail (HGT according to international classification), packaging – bags or boxes. Upon arrival at the home port, the products are transferred for storage in freezers or sent to buyers.

Fishing species

The Antarctic toothfish is a demersal pelagic fish from the Nototheniidae family, which is the largest of all south polar fish that live in the marginal seas of Antarctica. The total length can reach 2 m, and weight – up to 135 kg. Distributed in high latitudes of the Southern Ocean and known to depths of 2200 m. Rarely found north of 60 degrees’ south latitude.

Patagonian toothfish is a marine Antarctic fish of origin from the Nototheniidae family. The greatest body length is about 2 m; the maximum weight is up to 120 kg. This species lives in the waters off the coast of Chile and Argentina, near the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island at depths from 300 to 2000 m.
